RE: biltmore estate

You do not say where you are staying. Head over to Brevard NC area for some great waterfalls. A great home base at a reasonable price is hereMountain Stream From here you can go to Asheville 20 min, Mount Mitchell 20 minutes, Linville (grandfather mountain) 40 minutes, Spruce Pine- Little Switzerland 25 minutes Brevard 45 minutes. You could spend a week in the area and not see half the good stuff. The leaves are starting to turn in the higher elevations so you will even see the natural beauty as well.

RE: Changing a Family Traditon

We made the change last year and it took a little time for me to get my wife to agree to it but once she did we had a great time. We did the big family dinner the weekend before because that is the time when everyone can get together and then we left. We had a great time and plan to make that the new family tradition. We did New years last year but the calander this year did not work in our favor so we will have to stay home and work. What a bummer.

RE: Myrtle Beach State Park

The park is great for everyone that likes to camp. They do not have a pool, but the beach is great, they do have a playground that is nice, lots of areas to ride bikes, and walk. They have a boardwalk that goes from the campground all the way to the fishing pier. If yo leave the park MB has plenty to do, the Aquarium is nice, water parks, Nascar speed parks, etc. You will have a wonderful time.

RE: It is so frustrating - Oh how I wish..........

This is one of my biggest gripes as well. I will say that what I have found is that most of the campgrounds that do not post pictures of their sites have a reason, and it is not a good one. An idea that really works is not being used that much but I have seen it on some GA COE campgrounds. When you go to the site map, you click on the site number and a picture of the site pops up. Very accurate. I am no puter guru, but how expensive can that be?? I think the business would increase for folks that show their sites unless they are bad.

RE: Banjo Creek dues

I learned from my timeshare dealings or nightmares that it sounds great, looks wonderful and all that but things are always changing. Yep you get a contract that says this but in todays world that can change in a minute. All I was saying is I bet the owner does not care one way or the other if the truth was known. He is in a win win no matter what you do. I would get it in writing that the $150.00 fee will never go up. I truly see your side, but reality is that you have a choice to make. Pay the bill, and continue to enjoy the campground the way you have for years, or do not pay and camp other places. The one good thing is that you paid What; a 1/4 of what the new people are paying now. It's up to you, but I would not let this steal your joy. Life's just to short.

RE: Banjo Creek dues

I have been watching this thread to see what the end would be. I am not a member nor would I ever be. It sounds to me like this; The old Zooland members paid what the premium price was at the time and because of that they were granted lifetime memberships with no extra fees. Now I; for one, believe that whoever wrote that contract was a couple of bricks short of a load. It takes money to operate and keep up a campground. You can only sell so many memberships, by law, and once you reach that number what keeps the place going???? I personally think if you have a contract and the owner said they would be honored, by his word, they should be. Now this is the Great US of A and if he did not put it in writing, he does not have to do anything at all. Think about this. Lets say the 100 or so members that paid their money so long ago for their lifetime membership, that he has seen none of, decide to drop out, not pay his little fee. What happens then???? He has a 100 or so extra memberships that he can sell at what price. Yes, all of you helped the campground when it was starting out and have enjoyed all the benefits that came along with it' until now. If you want to stick it to the man, pay the fee for a year, stay at the campground all you can. Look at it this way, It only takes five nites at $30 a night to break even.If after the first year you are not happy; by all means leave. I would stay on the owners case about maintenance problems, the dirt roads, or anything else that is not properly cared for. If you do not pay; he wins. So, the questions are: Will he agree to write a contract saying that the $150 will never go up? Is staying at this campground the number of times you stay worth $150 a year? Or, do you fight it and lose? I have learned; especially in the last little while, that a lot of peoples word doesn't mean anything. Just an outsiders 02

RE: Yogi Bear's Jellystone Camp-Resort Marion, NC

We used to go to Jellystone Marion, but this year they seemed to become very proud of their park and jumped their prices for everything a good bit. It is a nice park but for the new prices they are charging, we felt that it was not that nice.

RE: 2005 Chevy Tahoe Z71-Towing

As long as your rear axle ratio is 3.73 or 4.10 and you do not drive like a racecar driver, you should be fine. Make sure you have the WD hitch and I recommend the Equalizer, and use your tow haul mode. I have a 2003 Suburban and I tow a 31 foot Crossraods Cruiser that weighs out at 6800 lbs loaded. We have had no problems. The only thing I did different was add some air bags to the rear springs due to tongue weight. We go to the mountains, beaches and everywhere in between. Just take it easy and have good regular maintenance done.

RE: The message is not out yet.

The trickle down effect....It starts with the people that have money and gets smaller as it trickles down through the different levels of society. Our area has been hit hard with mfg job losses in the furniture and textile industry or the last several years. The gas situtation has really caused a lot of those issues to get worse. a family with two incomes from what used to be $15 to $18 an hour jobs are now two incomes from $8 to $10 and hour jobs? Crime is up and the police tell me a lot of it is first time offenders that are middle age desperate to feed their families. Something is very wrong with this picture; especially when the upper management is rolling in big payouts and bonuses. Something has to change or it will only get worse.

If you like Charleston, I would recommend James Island County park. It is probably the nicest park you will find anywhere. Ocean lakes at MB would be my pick as well

RE: Toilet odor

I will say that the problem is not enough water in the black tank. We had the same problem when we went from a 25 gallon to a 40 gallon tank. We started using "happy camper" brand tank additive and a total of five gallons of water. No More problems. We always flush the tank very good but I still say plenty of water is the real trick.

You really need to check this place out. Mountain Stream You will not be sorry. Small Campground but super nice, clean and very nice owners. Buck Creek is OK, and Tom Johnsons is mainly a parking lot, but some people like that as well. Just my .02

RE: Teen's Summer Job

Great topic, We found the easy way to have your teen want to get a job and it has worked for all of ours. (five) If you want your drivers license you will have to have a part time job to pay your insurance. Stick to that and I promise they will get a job. As for camping, Ours go some but now less and less. We have done our level best to teach them responsibility and what is right and wrong. We pray every day the they make the right decisions, but they do have free will. Trust them and yourselves until they give you reason not too. Our theory is I would rather them stay home than be made to go and ruin our weekend as well.

RE: Over rating campgrounds

Since we have no standard rating, it is considered an opinion. Look at Good Sam and Woodalls ratings???? Those are not always what you would think either. When I rate a campground it is based on what I see, how I feel about the place and the service I received. When I am looking at reviews, I do not base my opinion on one review but all the reviews. I mostly count on whatthey reviewer has to say and not the number. It has worked well for me this far. We are all different in what we think of a campground and what we think is up to par, so take the ratings with a grain of salt, try it out and form your own opinion.

RE: NEED HELP FAST!!!!! Place to see in North Carolina

Jordan Lake has four SRA campgrounds. We usually stay at Crosswinds and yes when we have been there sites were available even during the forth week. The big thing is the closeness to the swimming area and the lake it's self. If you do not want to be right on the water you should have no problem getting a site.

RE: How can I clean mold stains from white rubber trim

I learned this from cleaning a shower, but for mold try white vinegar, Just spray it on, let it sit a few minutes, use a small brush and rinse. It works for me.

RE: Am I the only camping reservation junkie?

I am a resi junkie too. We have trips planned for the rest of 2008 and will start working on 2009 very soon. We have to plan way ahead due to four teenage sons and their sports, college stuff etc. As soon as we know football schedules we plan our fall trips around home and away games. We camp through New Years, and then take Jan. off and sometimes Feb. We have trips planned for March, April and May around baseball. I really do not call it being a junkie, I call it being prepared. We can alway cancel if we need to but getting that prime spot at the last minute is impossible. Due to our schedules we only made forty nights last year and it looks like about the same this year. We would love to do more but the boys sports are where it's at for the couple of years.

RE: average wait for rvwholesalers.com

I have ordered from them on several occasions and delivery has always been prompt. I did place one order that they were out of and was told that when I placed my order, but they had it shipped directly from the supplier so it was still on time.
